MEDIA FREEDOM, POLITICAL KNOWLEDGE, AND PARTICIPATION

Öz

As it’s known, democracy gains power in direct proportion to high voter turnout. Voter turnout is affected by varied factors. As it referred in the study, the effect of media on participation is tied to media freedom. Media freedom is an event which can be analysed within the scope of the effect of the government on the media. In the study writer examines the relationship between medya freedom, political knowledge and participation. In this context the study aims to propound the critical importance of media freedom for an effective democracy. The study adopts to achieve this goal by using some arguments which supports the objectivity like numerical calculations, figures and tables. This property has a positive effect on the study to be scientific

Öz

Bilindiği üzere demokrasi, yüksek seçmen katılımı ile doğru orantılı olarak güçlenmektedir. Seçmen katılımı ise değişik faktörlerden etkilenmektedir. Çalışmada değinildiği üzere, medyanın katılıma olan etkisi, medya özgürlüğüne bağlı bir seyir izlemektedir. Medya özgürlüğü ise devletin medya üzerindeki etkisi çerçevesinde tahlil edilebilecek olan bir olgu olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Çalışmada yazar; medya özgürlüğü, siyasal bilgi ve katılım arasındaki ilişkiyi irdelemektedir. Bu çerçevede çalışma, ampirik bir yaklaşımla, medya özgürlüğünün etkin bir demokrasi açısından sahip olduğu kritik önemi ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma söz konusu amacına; sayısal hesaplamalar, şekiller ve tablolar gibi objektifl iği destekleyici argümanlar ile ulaşma yöntemini benimsemektedir. Bu özelliği ise çalışmanın bilimselliğini müspet bir biçimde etkilemektedir
