Investigation of the Relationship Between School Psychological Counselors' Stress Coping Styles with Emotional Intelligence and Self-Compassion
Öz
The current study aimed to explore the relationships among school psychological counselors' stress coping styles, emotional intelligence, and self-compassion. The participants in this correlational survey research included 464 psychological counselors working in schools across seven regions of Turkey during the 2023-2024 academic year. Data were collected using the Coping Styles with Stress Scale, the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form, the Self-Compassion Scale, and a Personal Information Form. The analysis involved Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression. Results showed that emotional intelligence and self-compassion were significantly and positively associated with effective coping styles in response to stress and significantly and negatively associated with ineffective coping styles in response to stress. Additionally, emotional intelligence and self-compassion significantly predicted counselors' coping styles with stress, together accounting for 42% of the variance in effective coping scores, and 25% of the variance in ineffective coping scores.
