Art is one of the areas where people find their desire for immortality. This activity, which manifests itself in the form of leaving a mark in the world, starts by imitating/ influencing the artists who produce and succeed before the person. Those who are just entering the world of art prefer to be articulated to the previously approved, rather than struggling for existence independently in its boundless field. If imitation does not develop the imitator over time, it becomes a useless act; However, if it constitutes only the first steps towards the 'ownness' of the artist and opens new horizons, it causes the birth of a new and powerful artist.
Orhan Kemal, who works with a socialist approach and is known for his novels and stories in the literary world, turns to poetry with his fictions that place his individual feelings, loneliness and anxiety on the thematic plane. Orhan Kemal during this period, was influenced by poets from Necip Fazıl Kısakürek, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı, Asaf Halet Çelebi, Ahmet Muhip Dıranas. Orhan Kemal borrows the contents of Nazım Hikmetʹs poems after meeting him. Realizing the inability to find his own voice or to get rid of his influence, Orhan Kemal changes the direction of his art.
In this study, Orhan Kemal's poems will be evaluated in the context of poetic influence theory.
