Book Review: Reform In The Ottoman Empire 1856-1876

Öz

In this study was examined the book of “Reform in the Ottoman Empire 1856-1876” written by Roderic Hollett Davison in 1963, which was translated into Turkish as “Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda Reform, 1856-1876” in 2005. Davison analyzed the twenty-year period between 1856-1876, the reforms, the political life an structured of the period, the leaders of the reforms, the attitudes of the public and the content of the reforms. Firstly, in the study, the author’s language, perspective, and the work has been generally evaluated. And subsequently the content of the book was discussed in detail. Within the scope of Davison's subjects and thoughts, the reforms between 1856-1876 were examined and analyzed with references from the book. Finally, the book has been generally evaluated.

KİTAP İNCELEMESİ: OSMANLI İMPARATORLUĞU’NDA REFORM, 1856-1876

Öz

Bu çalışmada, Roderic Hollett Davison tarafından 1963 yılında yazılan “Reform in the Ottoman Empire 1856-1876” adlı eserinin 2005 yılında Türkçeye “Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda Reform, 1856-1876” olarak çevrilen kitabı incelenmiştir. Davison eserinde 1856-1876 yılları arasındaki yirmi yıllık süreci reformlar, dönemin siyasi hayatı, reformlara öncülük eden isimleri, kişilerin tutumlarını ve reformların içeriğini ele almaktadır. Çalışmada öncelikle yazarın dili, bakış açısı ve eserin genel değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Ardından eserin içeriği detaylı bir şekilde incelenmiştir. Davison’ın ele aldığı konular ve düşünceleri kapsamında, 1856-1876 yılları arasındaki reformlar eserden referanslarla incelenmiş ve analiz edilmiştir. Son olarak, incelenen eserin genel bir değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır.
