Letter to the Editor: View from Bibliometric Framework of Abdominal Region Traumatic Injury in Children

Öz

ABSTRACT This letter evaluates the study titled "View from the Bibliometric Framework of Abdominal Region Traumatic Injuries in Children" by Bilir and Meral, published in Akd Med J 2025;11(1):17-25. The study analyzes 285 articles published between 1980 and 2023, retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database, to present a quantitative overview of global research trends, geographical distributions, and interdisciplinary collaborations in the field of pediatric abdominal trauma. Notably, Türkiye ranks third (7.1%) after the United States (52.3%) and Canada (5.6%), highlighting the country's significant scientific contribution to this field. The study's strengths include its focus on high-impact articles addressing diagnostic protocols (e.g., FAST ultrasonography) and conservative management approaches, as well as its emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration across Surgery (35.3%), Pediatrics (25.4%), and Emergency Medicine (11.0%). However, limitations such as the exclusive use of the WoS database, reliance on title-only keyword searches, and the low proportion of financially supported articles (9.1%) may have narrowed the scope of the study. Despite these limitations, the study provides valuable insights into pediatric trauma research and serves as a guide for future investigations.
