Relationship between Dental Trauma and Orthodontic Tooth Movement

Yıl 2017, Cilt: 3 Sayı: 3, 131 - 136, 01.01.2017

Öz

Objective: It is well known that patients who undergo orthodontic treatment have a high incidence of a dental trauma history. The aim of this review was to determine the principles that should be considered in the orthodontic movement of teeth exposed to trauma and the investigation of the solutions for the complications that can occur and to ensure a secure protocol for the clinical process. Material and Methods: The studies published in the national and international literature related to this topic were reviewed online. Results: There is limited information about orthodontic movement of previously traumatized teeth in the literature. While some studies on this topic are available, they do not provide a reliable protocol for clinical procedures. Conclusion: Dental trauma may cause major changes in the orthodontic treatment plan or continuing orthodontic treatment. Teeth with previous severe traumatic injuries intrusive luxation/avulsion should be avoided as much as possible as regards using as anchor teeth, moving long distances and exposing to intrusive mechanics
