Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education Management: Opportunities, Challenges, and Future Perspectives

Öz

Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in higher education have recently gained a central role not only in pedagogical processes but also in institutional management, quality assurance, and strategic planning. In areas such as student life cycle management, academic advising and guidance services, resource allocation, and institutional planning, AI offers the potential to enhance student achievement, improve efficiency, and reduce costs through learning analytics, personalized learning, and optimization algorithms. However, challenges such as academic integrity, data protection, algorithmic bias, and institutional readiness remain critical risks that limit the sustainable and equitable implementation of these technologies. In terms of future perspectives, short-term developments are expected to focus on early intervention and personalization; medium-term on data-driven management, institutional flexibility, and quality assurance; and long-term on ethics-, transparency-, and sustainability-oriented governance frameworks. In this context, particularly in developing countries, strengthening institutional capacity, promoting explainable AI applications, and designing inclusive policies emerge as essential components of future research and implementation agendas.
