Travmadan Entelektüelliğin Temsiline: Ahdaf Soueif’in Güneşin Gözünde ve Rabih Alameddine’in Ben, İlahi Eserleri

Öz

Bu makale, Ahdaf Soueif'in In the Eye of the Sun (1992) ve Rabih Alameddine'nin novel I, The Divine (2001) romanlarında travma ve entelektüelizm konularını incelemektedir. Makale, satır aralarında (metin boyunca, çalışma kapsamında), özellikle Asya ve Sarah gibi ana karakterlerin yolculuklarını ve iç savaşlar altında yaşadıkları içsel mücadeleleri anlatmaya odaklanacaktır. Büyük bir travmatik deneyim olan savaş, Aysa ve Sarah'nın hayatlarını paramparça eder ve onları modern entelektüel kadınlara dönüştürür. Her iki romanı da psikanalitik bir bakış açısıyla ele alan makale, Soueif ve Alameddine'in travmanın bireyin entelektüel düşüncesini veya bilincini geliştirmede nasıl önemli bir rol oynadığı fikrine odaklandıklarını ve bunun olumsuz bir etki değil, olumlu bir etki olarak görülebileceğini göstermeyi amaçlamaktadır. From Trauma to The Representation of The Intellectual: Ahdaf Soueif’s in The Eye of The Sun and Rabih Allameddine’s I, The Divine

Öz

This article investigates the topic of trauma and intellectualism in Ahdaf Soueif’s novel In the Eye of the Sun (1992) and Rabih Alameddine’s novel I, The Divine (2001). It will focus on narrating the journeys of the main protagonists notably Asya and Sarah and their inner struggle under civil wars. The war as a major traumatic experience shatters Asya’s and Sarah’s lives and transforms them into modern intellectual women. Reading both novels from a psychoanalytical perspective, the paper aims to show how both novelists Soueif and Alameddine focus on the idea of how trauma plays an important role in developing the intellectual thinking or consciousness of one’s individual, and thus this can be seen as a positive effect rather than a negative one. Based on this statement, the article will explore this topic and will demonstrate how both authors seek to represent the protagonists as intellectuals to decolonize, liberate and reform.
