Hospitality is one of the most significant cultural values of the Turkish society. The Turks, which have lived in different regions throughout history, have been recognized as the nation showing deep respect towards their guests. Many motifs on hospitality are seen in literary works, which also reflect Turkish culture. The Dede Korkut’s book narrating the life and culture of the Oghuz Turks can be also, in one perspective, seen as the concrete face of Turkish traditi-ons, and include the concept of hospitality in its some parts. The stories touch upon the theme that a sense of sharing and hospitality and of making so-meone happy enriches a man, and rise a man to the higher level of humanity. They point out the belief that a guest brings happiness and blessing to the home he/she is guested, and also indica-tes that having a guest would lead to the householder to increase his/her social status. This article studies the reflections of hospitality in Dede Korkut’s Stories, which is of great importance in Turkish traditions. The work also draws attention to the messages on hospitality in the narratives, and the aspects of psycho-social and social solidarity of these messages. It, furt-hermore, mentions to what extent the heroes of the book are hospitable and so like to the ideal type of the era.
