Corporate sustainability analysis: Evaluating the performance of IGA Istanbul Airport using LOPCOW and MAUT methods

Öz

This study comprehensively evaluates the corporate sustainability performance of İGA Istanbul Airport between 2019 and 2023 in terms of economic, environmental, and social dimensions. The study uses the Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods to measure the effectiveness of the airport's sustainability policies. The study determined the importance weights of the criteria using the LOPCOW (Logarithmic Percentage Change-driven Objective Weighting) method, while the airport's sustainability performance over the years was measured with the MAUT (Multi-Attribute Utility Theory) method. The findings indicate that İGA has made significant improvements in its sustainability performance over time. There was a decline in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, but a rapid recovery process began in 2021, and 2023 was the year in which the best performance was observed across all sustainability dimensions. In particular, the progress achieved in environmental sustainability indicators (carbon emissions, energy efficiency, waste management) demonstrates that the airport has taken significant steps toward achieving its long-term sustainability goals. The model developed in this study to evaluate the effectiveness of airport sustainability policies can be adapted to airports of different sizes and provides a framework to guide future applications and research.
