The Effects of Early Childhood Education on Creative Thinking Skills

Abstract

This study was planned in order to investigate creative thinking skills of children who were receiving preschool education and those who were not. The population of the study consisted of six-year-old children who were attending to the preschools of primary schools located in Ankara. The sample included 210 six-year-old normally developed children who were attending to eight randomly selected pre-schools. In order to obtain data from the children, `General Information Form` and `Test for Creative Thinking-Drawing Production (TCT-DP)` which had been developed by Urban and Jellen (1996) and of which validity and reliability for six year old Turkish children were studied by Can-Yaşar (2009) were used. Mann-Whitney U test was used to analyze the relationship between the children’s creative thinking skills and their status of receiving early childhood education and their gender.
