The Soil and The Protection of The Soil in The Textbooks of Social Sciences For The Sixth And Seventh Grades in Primary School

Abstract

Since the very beginning of their history on the Earth, human beings have been using the sources around themselves. With the settled life, soil and agriculture have had a dominant role in human life. Nowadays, the development of industry and technology affect everything including natural sources. One of the most important sources, the soil, has been damaged by chemicals and ignorance. The protection of the earth and environment, which is one of the most important issues of our time, is firstly considered by parents, and then, from the primary school level, it is focused on through the whole life. The subject “The Soil and The Protection of The Soil”, studied through the use and the protection of natural sources, is among the subjects of 4, 5,6 and 7th grades’ Social Sciences lesson. The Primary School-level of Social Sciences has a great role in terms of the perception of the life in the world, and having responsibilities towards the existing problems. This study aims to reveal how the issue of “The Soil and The Protection of The Soil”, has been included in the textbooks of the 6th and 7th grades Social Sciences lesson, which have been selected by the Board of Education and Discipline to be put into practise during the 2010-2011 school year. It has been concluded that there isn’t enough guidence for this issue on the guide books for the ones teaching the 6th and 7th grades’ pupils; and also, on the student books, this issue isn’t considered as a seperate subject but has only been included as superficial explanations. Moreover, on the workbooks for pupils, there isn’t any activity focusing on the matter of “The Soil and The Protection of The Soil”, seperately; however, this issue has been dealed with in only a few activities about different subjects.

İlköğretim 6. ve 7. Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitaplarında Toprak ve Toprağın Korunmasının Yeri

Öz

İnsanoğlu dünyada var olduğundan beri hayatını idame ettirebilmek için çevresindeki kaynakları kullanma yoluna gitmiştir. Yerleşik yasamın başlamasıyla birlikte insan hayatında en önemli yeri toprak ve toprak işlemeciliği almıştır. Günümüzde gelişen sanayi ve teknoloji sonuçlarıyla her şeyi etkilemiş bundan doğal kaynaklarda payını almıştır. En önemli doğal kaynaklardan biri olan toprak atıklar, kimyasal maddeler ve duyarsızlık sonucu zarar görmeye başlamıştır. Günümüzün önemli sorunlarından birini teşkil eden toprağın ve çevrenin korunması bilinci ilk basta ailede verilmekte daha sonra ilköğretim düzeyinden başlayıp hayatın her aşamasında bireylere verilmektedir. Doğal kaynakların kullanımı ve korunmasında yer alan “toprak ve toprağın korunması” konusu da özellikle ilköğretim 4. 5. 6. ve 7. sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler derslerinde verilmektedir. İlköğretimde okutulan Sosyal Bilgiler dersi öğrencilerin dünyayı tanıma ve var olan sorunlara karsı duyarlılıklarının geliştirilmesinde çok önemli bir yer tutar. Bu çalışmada “toprak ve toprağın korunması” konusuna Türkiye’de Talim ve Terbiye Kurulu tarafından 2010- 2011 eğitim öğretim yılında uygulanması uygun görülen tüm 6. ve 7. sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarında ne derecede yer verildiği tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. 6. ve 7. sınıf düzeyinde kullanılan Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmen kılavuz kitaplarında öğretmenlere bu konuyla ilgili yeterli düzeyde yönlendirme yapılmadığı, ders kitaplarında içerik olarak baslı basına ele alınmadığı sadece yüzeysel açıklamaların yapıldığı görülmüştür. Öğrenci çalışma kitaplarında ise “toprak ve toprağın korunması”yla ilgili neredeyse hiçbir etkinliğin yer almadığı sadece bazı etkinliklerin içerisine sıkıştırıldığı tespit edilmiştir.
