Material Development in the Context of Preschool Teaching Profession

Abstract

In Turkey, up until 2018, preschool education teachers took courses about materials development during their university education, and as such are expected to prepare materials in terms of children’s interests and needs in order to and enrich their learning environment. This study aimed at revealing preschool education teachers’ views about material development courses, and the effects of these courses on their professional lives. The participants of this qualitative study were 19 serving preschool teachers. An interview form was constituted by the researchers as the data gathering tool, and content analysis was applied to the collected data. According to the results, the preschool teachers recognized the importance of material development in preschool education, and considered material development courses as significant within the teacher education program. In this context, teacher education programs should include material development courses education. The study also revealed the preschool teachers’ reflections of material development on the preschool teaching profession.
