The Study of Pre-Learning Abilities of the Children in Five-Six Years of the Families with Lower and Upper Socio-Economical Levels
Abstract
This study was performed to analyze the early learning abilities of the children of the families with different
socio-economical levels who attend pre-school education institutions using some variables. The five-six year of
children of the different socio-economical level families who attend to the National Education pre-school education
institutions in the Konya province constitutes the cosmos of the research.162 children that were selected among the
students attending kindergarten classes of private and public primary schools that are under the control of Provincial Directorate of Education in Konya and were chosen through random classification sampling among the students with
0.95 of reliance level and 0.05 tolerant level constitute the sampling of the study.
For the data of the study, “The General Information Form” that was developed by Somwari (1977) and consist
of the information related to the children “The Evaluation Scale for Early Learning Skills” developed by Başaran
(2006) for validity and reliability were use.
The information obtained through General Information File was used for frequencies and percentage allocation.
“The Evaluation Scale of Early Learning Abilities” was used to obtain average and standard deviation value through
Total Scores of Early Learning Abilities and the presence of difference between the sex and the age of beginning to
school according to the socio-economical level was analyzed using Many Whitney U Test. The correlation scores
were computed for the relations between total measurement scores of independent variables and sub-measurement
scores.
At the end of the study, the girls of lower socio-economical levelled families who attend the kindergarten
classes were found to have significantly higher scores of Ability of Thinking than the boys attending the kindergarten
class. It was determined that Total Scores of Early Learning Abilities (EOTB) and sub-total scores of Thinking,
Language and Numeracy Abilities increased when the beginning age of the pre-school education lowered for the
children of families with lower and upper socio-economical levels. It was found that the scores of Language and
Numeracy Abilities increased when the beginning age of the pre-school education lowered for the children of
families with upper socio-economical levels. It was determined that the beginning age to start school was
significantly low for the children who attend the schools of upper socio-economical levels.
