Öz

Bu çalışmada evlilik ilişkilerindeki sosyal bağın niteliği, nasıl kavramsallaştırılıp analiz edileceği ve bu analizlerin aile ve kişisel ilişkilerin anlaşılmasındaki önemi sosyolojik olarak tartışmaya açılmaktadır. İlgili literatüre ait çalışmaların ilerletilmesinde işlevselcilerin araçsal, tözcü yaklaşımların ise değer rasyonaliteye dayalı metodolojik tavrı önemli sorunlar çıkarmaktadır. Çalışmada (i) öncelikli olarak bu sorunların neler olduklarının metodolojik ve meta-kuramsal eleştirel değerlendirmesi yapılmakta, ardından (ii) samimiyet kavramı etrafında şekillenen ve ilişkilerin tözsel doğasına odaklanan yaklaşımların analitik potansiyeli tartışılmaktadır. Yapılan meta-kuramsal değerlendirme evliliğin yalnızca bireysel bir seçim değil, hukuki normlar, toplumsal değerler ve kültürel iktidar yapıları içinde şekillenen çok katmanlı bir ilişki olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu yapılar arasında özellikle toplumsal cinsiyet düzeni, eşitsizliklerin yeniden üretildiği temel bir boyut olarak öne çıkmaktadır. Samimiyetin ima ettiği karşılıklı bağlılık ve eşitlik ideali, toplumsal cinsiyet temelli yapısal eşitsizlikler içinde tahakküm ilişkilerine dönüşme olasılığı taşımaktadır. Dolayısıyla, evlilikteki sosyal bağın doğasının anlaşılması kuramsal olduğu kadar bağlamsal ve ampirik bir meseledir. Böylelikle çalışmada bu çok katmanlı yapı göz önünde bulundurularak, evlilikteki sosyal bağın doğasının ampirik alanda nasıl araştırılabileceğine dair metodolojik bir yol da önerilmektedir. Zira bir sorunun tatminkâr bir tanımının yapılabilmesi ve araştırabilmesi onun nasıl giderilebileceğine dair yöntemsel bir çözümü de içerdiğinde anlamlı bir bütünlük oluşturmaktadır.

Why Is It Important To Understand And How To Search For The Nature Of Social Bond In Marital Relationships?

Öz

This article examines the nature of the social bond in marital relationships, its conceptualization and analysis, and their significance for understanding family and intimate relations. Progress in literature is hindered by the instrumental orientation of functionalism and the value-rational stance of essentialism. The article (i) offers a methodological and metatheoretical critique of these challenges and (ii) explores the analytical potential of substantivist approaches to intimacy. This evaluation demonstrates that the social bond in marriage is not merely a matter of individual choice or preference, but shaped within and by legal norms, social values, and cultural power structures. Among these, gender order emerges as a key dimension through which inequalities are reproduced. The ideal of mutual interdependency and egalitarian ties implied by intimacy may turn into relations of domination under gender-based structural inequalities. Thus, understanding the nature of the social bonds in marriage is not only theoretical but also contextual and empirical. The study, therefore, proposes a methodological framework for the empirical investigation of marital bonds, considering their multi-layered structure. After all, providing a satisfactory definition of a problem and a meaningful way to investigate it becomes a coherent whole when it also includes a methodological path for addressing the issue.
