The negative consequences of climate change are rapidly increasing, and it affects different economic sectors in various ways. Experts have identified greenhouse gas emissions as the primary catalyst that accelerates climate change, leading to a range of social, economic and ecological problems. Researchers worldwide are debating whether economic development and Research and Development (R&D) investments can help control these issues. This study aims to investigate the impact of R&D investment and economic growth on environmental quality. Panel data methods were used to address existing econometric issues in estimating the effect of R&D and economic growth on greenhouse gas emissions. The study used data from selected OECD economies covering the period from 2000 to 2022. The findings indicate that R&D investments and carbon dioxide have a significant positive impact on environmental quality by reducing a range of pollutants, including pollutants and other pollutants.
The results are robust to a range of sensitivity tests, and the findings have important policy implications for climate change and various environmental initiatives.
