Effect Of Inspiratory Muscle Training On Core Muscle Strength, Endurance And Balance

Öz

Objective: The core region of the body is the transition point between the upper extremity and the lower extremity. Although the diaphragm is the main respiratory muscle, it is one of the core muscles. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of inspiratory muscle strength training (IMT) on core muscle strength, endurance and balance.
Method: 22 healthy young adults were included in the study and divided into two randomization groups: IMT Group (IMTGr) and control group (CGr). While IMTGr was applied for eight weeks by progressing with resistance starting from 85% of the maximum inspiratory pressure, no intervention was made to CGr. The lung volumes of the cases were evaluated by spirometric measurement, respiratory muscle strength by mouth pressure measurement, core muscle strength by Chattanooga Stabilizer Pressure Biofeedback, core muscle endurance by sit-up, lateral bridge and plank tests, and their balance by Y balance test.
Results: At the beginning evaluation of the groups, other clinical and demographic characteristics were similar except for the Y balance test. Although there were numerical increases in lung volumes and respiratory muscle strength at the end of the program in IMTGr, no statistically significant difference was detected (p>0,05). Although there were intra-group differences in core muscle strength, endurance and balance there was no difference between the groups (p>0,05).
Conclusion: According to the results obtained from the study, IMT has no effect on core muscle strength, endurance and balance. In order to obtain more meaningful results, large-scale studies are needed to examine core muscle strength, core muscle endurance and balance in isolation.

Sağlıklı Bireylerde İnspiratuar Kas Eğitiminin Kor Kas Kuvveti, Enduransı, Denge Üzerine Etkisi

Öz

Amaç: Vücutta kor bölgesi üst ekstremite ile alt ekstremitenin geçiş noktasıdır. Diyafragma, başlıca solunum kası olmakla birlikte, kor kaslarından biridir. Bu çalışmanın amacı inspiratuar kas kuvvet eğitimi (İKE)’nin, kor kas kuvveti, enduransı ve denge üzerine etkisini incelemektir.
Yöntem: Çalışmaya toplamda 22 sağlıklı genç erişkinin dahil edildi ve randomize olarak İKE Grubu (İKEGr) ve kontrol grubu (KGr) olarak ikiye ayrıldı. İKEGr’ye maksimum inspiratuar basıncın %85’inden başlanan dirençle progrese edilerek sekiz hafta süresince İKE uygulanırken, KGr’ye bir müdahale yapılmadı. Olguların akciğer volümleri spirometrik ölçümle, solunum kas kuvveti ağız basınç ölçümü ile kor kas kuvveti Chattanooga Stabilizer Pressure Biofeedback ile kor kas enduransı sit up, lateral köprü, plank testleri ile dengeleri Y denge testi ile değerlendirildi.
Bulgular: Grupların başlangıç değerlendirmesinde, Y denge testi dışında diğer klinik ve demografik özellikleri benzerdi. IKEGr’de program sonunda akciğer volümlerinde ve solunum kas kuvvetinde sayısal artışlar olmakla birlikte, istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark saptanmadı (p>0,05). Kor kas kuvveti, enduransı ve dengede grup içi farklılıklar olmakla birlikte gruplar arasında bir fark yoktu (p>0,05).
Sonuç: Çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre İKE’nin kor kas kuvvet ve enduransı ile denge üzerine etkisi yoktur. Daha anlamlı sonuçların elde edilebilmesi için kor kas kuvveti, kor kas enduransı ve dengenin izole şekilde inceleneceği geniş boyutlu çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
