NITROGEN, PHOSPHORUS, POTASSIUM, CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM NUTRITION OF SWEET CHERRY TREES GROWING IN THE BURSA REGION
Abstract
This study was conducted in order to determine the nutritional status of sweet cherry trees grown in the Bursa region in respect to nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The soil texture is sandy-loam and sandy-clay-loam, and the orchards are suitable for sweet cherry production. There is no salinity problem. The soil pH is moderately high for sweet cherry production. Approximately half of the soils have high Calcium Carbonate levels. The organic matter content of the sub-soils was at insufficient level being approximately half of the units but more than half of the top-soils was suitable in organic matter content. Phosphorus and potassium were 4 %, 33 % insufficient respectively, in the top soils. Phosphorus 21 %, potassium 55 %, were insufficient in orchards where in mid depth soils. In the sub soils, phosphorus 46 %, potassium 62 % were insufficient. Calcium and magnesium were sufficient and/or at high levels. According to the results of plant analysis, only first year phosphorus 8% was insufficient. Changing with the years, there were nutritional unstabilities in nitrogen at 63-21%, in potassium at 29-13% in the orchards studied. Calcium and magnesium contents of the leaves were found to be at sufficient levels in all units.
