TThe Investıgatıon of Clostridıum diffıcile Colonization in Long Term Hospitalized Patients

Aim: Clostridium difficile may be confronted with a spectrum of diseases ranging from simple diarrhea to a life-threatening pseudomembranous colitis. Treatment methods such as antibiotics, cytostatic drugs, radiation and mechanical cleaning of the intestines before surgery, destroys the colon flora and causes the spread of Clostridium difficile spores, which are common in the environment, the prolongation of the hospital stay and cost increase.
Materials and Methods: This study was conducted between July 1 2015 and September 30 2015 at XXXX. Seventy-seven patients who were hospitalized for 72 hours or more were included in the study. Effective risk factors for the development of infection or colonization of these patients were investigated and recorded. The presence of Clostridium difficile toxin A/B was investigated by ELISA method in 104 stool cases of 77 patients. The findings were analyzed with the SPSS v.22 packet program. Out of 104 samples, three patients were found to be Clostridium difficile Toxin A/B positive.
Results: As a common feature in the three positive patients, attention was drawn to the average monthly hospital stay, the presence of serious underlying diseases, and the use of antibiotics and gastroprotective medication.

because it is the first.
