CENGHIS KHAN’S CONQUEST OF TRANSOXANIA (1220)
Öz
Transoxania, which was captured by Mongols, means as “region which
is on the other side of the river” in Arabic language. Transoxania is on the first
place among the rivers in the world in terms of value, richness and clearness. It
is possible to find all blessings which people need to survive in this region.
Mongol emperor Cenghis Khan went towards to west namely Kharzem
Shah State after capturing China. At that time, Kharzem Shah State was in the
center of east route of Silk Road. Cenghis Khan together with Mongol forces,
made a task distribution between forces in front of Otrar in order to occupy
Kharzem Shah State lands. Then with Tuli, Cebe and Sabutay Noyan forces he
departed towards to Bukhara and Semerkand in order to occupy Transoxania
which he appropriated for himself. Mongol emperor and armies occupied Transoxania
lands which was under the control of Kharzem Shah State, destroyed
cities and killed most of the people. Mongols continued to raid Kharzem Shah
State lands after occupying the most important cities of Transoxania in a few
months.
