DETERMINATION OF EXPECTATIONS AND PERCEPTIONS OF LOCAL PEOPLE ON ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF TOURISM
Abstract
In recent years, the number of tourists coming to Safranbolu has been increasing. This increase makes the level of the effects of tourism on the historical structures and nature of the city even more important. It is thought that identifying the thoughts of the local people living in Safranbolu on the environmental impacts of tourism and suggesting solutions accordingly will contribute to the development of the tourism. Furthermore, it is important to determine how the natural environment is affected by this situation in the area where tourism is intense. In this context, the aim of the study is to measure the expectations and perceptions of the local people about the environmental issues of tourism in Safranbolu. In addition, another important issue in the study is to have information about to what extent tourism will affect or affects environmental factors. To do so, 255 survey was conducted to the local people residing in different parts of Safranbolu by convenience sampling. Descriptive and factor analysis were applied to the obtained data with the help of SPSS statistics program. According to the results of the analyzes, there is no statistically significant difference between expectations and perceptions about the environmental effects of tourism. In addition, it was concluded that tourism has positive environmental effects in the
region and that incoming tourists do not have or will not have a negative impact on the environment.
