Historical Perception In The Medieval Indian Film Samrat Prithviraj
Öz
Cinema has been in a common unity with the science of history since the time it began to be used as a means of mass communication. In fact, popular culture is extremely pleased with such integrity and is open to benefiting from it, and history has become an inseparable part of cinema. Recently, as is frequently the case in our country, historical events, people and states have begun to be frequently covered in the TV series industry. It is of critical importance that this mass media tool, which appeals to visual memory, be objective when conveying a historical event. Because it should not be forgotten that in the 21st century, technological devices have greatly reduced the habit of reading books and that people make judgments based on what they see and watch when evaluating historical information. This being the case, it has become necessary for the cinema/TV series world not to compromise on objectivity while narrating history and to fictionalize events in the light of sources. Despite this, it is understood that some movies and TV series, whether domestic or foreign productions, are far from historical truths and they have made this a conscious policy. Of course, it is not possible to examine all of these series or films in one study, and it is thought that each of them should be an independent subject of research. The movie discussed in this study is Samrat Prithviraj, a 2022 Indian production. Samrat Prithviraj is the 32th Raja of the Chavhan Dynasty, one of the indigenous dynasties that ruled for a long time in medieval North India, and is known to have led the state to its brightest period. However, towards the end of his life, he was defeated and killed in the Battle of Tarain (1192), which he fought with the Ghurid Sultan Muizzeddin Muhammed b. Bahaeddin Sam. In this study, the Samrat Prithviraj film, which has been subject to extensive distortion, has been examined.
