How can we increase the fracture stability with unilateral external fixation unit? What is the effect on the fracture side?

Abstract

Fracture healing is dependent not only on the fixation system. but also on the other equally important factors, such as fracture site stability and physiologic foading. The fracture side load distribution and fracture healing change by manupilation of the configuration of the unilateral external fixation. We compared quantitatively the fracture side load distribution by using compression plate and unilateral external fixator frame under different foading conditions. The correct unilateral external fixation configuration permits the load distribution similar to the distribution obtained for plate application under the partial weight-bearing condition
