Treatment of non-traumatic avascular necrosis of the femoral head by vascularized fibula grafting

Öz

Non-traumatic avascular necrosis of the femoral head is one of the major hip problems in young adults. Although technically demanding, vascularized bone grafting is effective in the treatment of pre-collapse lesions as it provides a living and mechanically strong bone in the avascular area of the femoral head. A case of stage 2-B avascular necrosis secondary to alcohol abuse, treated by core decompression and vascularized fibula grafting is presented. Follow-up at 6 months showed a decrease in the osteonecrotic area without any signs of collapse.
