In the eyes of the Europeans, the East was always very unique, because it was an unknown world that awakens
curiosity and a strange new focus. Going to it was an important thing for traveling writers, especially in the 19th
century.
In the 19th century, many French writers visited the city of Jerusalem, who wrote in their literary writings what
happened under their eyes, what attracted their attention, and what inspired their impressions. Among these
travelers is the French writer Gustave Flaubert Gustave who, without all his observations in his book: "A
notebook and observations about the journey to the east" (1850), in which he drew important aspects of public
life in the city of Jerusalem, drawing on his observations and His impressions of the city and its inhabitants, and
these features in the form of representation, which will be launched in the presentation of the level of the
presence of Eastern culture and thought in the creations of Flaubert.
My research was divided into an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. The introduction was about the
importance of Jerusalem in the eyes of French travelers. The first is the translation and definition of the French
traveler Gustav Flaubert, and the second topic was to talk about the importance of the journey Flaubert and
purpose, while the third section has been recorded in the life of Jerusalem through the talk of the literature of the
trip. And then a summary of the most important findings.
