IAMU Üyesi Denizcilik Üniversitelerinin Sürdürülebilirlik Performansı: Türkiye ve Küresel Bağlam Arasında Karşılaştırmalı Bir Analiz

Öz

Bu çalışma, denizcilik üniversitelerinin sürdürülebilirlik alanındaki performanslarını değerlendirmeyi ve Türkiye’deki kurumların küresel eğilimler karşısındaki konumunu ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında, Uluslararası Denizci Üniversiteler Birliği (IAMU) üyesi üniversiteler temel alınarak, Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings ve UI Green Metric göstergeleri kullanılmıştır. Söz konusu göstergeler, üniversitelerin sürdürülebilir kalkınma hedeflerine katkı düzeylerini çeşitli alanlarda puanlayarak karşılaştırılabilir bir veri seti sunmaktadır. Belirlenen üniversitelerin sıralamalardaki konumları ve sürdürülebilirlik uygulamaları analiz edilerek, Türkiye’deki denizcilik üniversitelerinin güçlü ve gelişime açık yönleri tartışılmıştır. Bulgular, Türkiye’deki üniversitelerin sürdürülebilirlik alanında daha dengeli ve yüksek performans gösterdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Ancak IAMU üyesi pek çok üniversitenin bu sıralamalarda yer almaması, küresel ölçekte sürdürülebilirlik görünürlüğünün sınırlı olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışma, denizcilik üniversitelerinin sürdürülebilirlik performanslarının arttırılması için politika geliştiricilere ve üniversite yöneticilerine yönelik çeşitli öneriler sunmaktadır.

Sustainability Performance of IAMU-Member Maritime Universities: A Comparative Analysis Between Türkiye and Global Context

Öz

This study aims to evaluate the performance of maritime universities in the field of sustainability and to reveal the position of institutions in Türkiye in relation to global trends. Within the scope of the study, the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings and UI Green Metric indicators were used, based on universities that are members of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU). These indicators provide a comparable data set by scoring universities' contribution levels to sustainable development goals in various areas. The positions of the identified universities in the rankings and their sustainability practices were analyzed, and the strengths and areas for improvement of maritime universities in Türkiye were discussed. The findings reveal that universities in Türkiye demonstrate more balanced and higher performance in the field of sustainability. However, the absence of many IAMU member universities in these rankings indicates that sustainability visibility is limited on a global scale. The study offers various recommendations to policymakers and university administrators for improving the sustainability performance of maritime universities.
