Kadın ve Erkek Üniversite Öğrencilerinde Gebelik Öncesi Doğum Korkusu Düzeylerinin Belirlenmesi: Tanımlayıcı ve Karşılaştırmalı Bir Çalışma

Öz

Giriş: Genç kadın ve erkekler; gebelik öncesi doğum korkusu yaşayabilmektedir. Gebelerde doğum korkusuna yönelik yapılan pek çok çalışma bulunmasına karşın, gençlerde gebelik öncesi dönemde yaşanan doğum korkusuna yönelik çok az bilgi mevcuttur. Bu araştırma gelecekte çocuk sahibi olmayı düşünen genç kadın ve erkeklerin gebelik öncesi doğum korkusu düzeylerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapıldı.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve karşılaştırmalı tipteki araştırma; 17 Şubat-30 Mart 2020 tarihleri arasında bir devlet üniversitesinin veteriner fakültesi, mühendislik fakültesi ve edebiyat fakültesinde eğitim gören 18 yaş ve üzerinde, bekâr olan, gelecekte çocuk sahibi olmayı düşünen ve araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 600 (301 kız, 299 erkek) öğrenci ile yürütüldü. Verilerin toplanmasında; anket formu ve gebelik öncesi doğum korkusu ölçeği kullanıldı. Veriler araştırmacı tarafından yüz yüze görüşme yöntemi kullanılarak toplandı.
Bulgular: Çalışma kapsamındaki gençlerin %50.2’sini kadınlar, %49.8’ini erkekler oluşturmaktadır. Genç kadınların %73.1’i, erkeklerin ise %71.9’u 21-24 yaş arasındadır. Gençlerin gebelik öncesi doğum korkusu puan ortalamaları kadınlarda 36.89±9.26, erkeklerde 31.50±7.26’dır. Grup içi karşılaştırmalarda genç kadın ve erkeklerde tanıtıcı özelliklere göre gebelik öncesi doğum korkusu puanları arasında anlamlılık bulunmamıştır (p>0.05). Bunun yanında genç kadın ve erkeklerde gebelik öncesi doğum korkusu puan ortalamaları gruplar arası karşılaştırıldığında; yaş, fakülte, sınıf, aile ve gelir durumu değişkenlerine göre tüm gruplarda kadınlarda erkeklerden daha fazla doğum korkusu yaşandığı saptandı (p<0.05).
Sonuç: Gebelik öncesi doğum korkusu genç kadın ve erkeklerde yadsınamaz düzeyde görülmekle birlikte kadınlarda erkeklerden daha fazla düzeyde yaşanmaktadır.

Determination of Fear of Birth Before Pregnancy in Female and Male University Students: A Descriptive and Comparative Study

Öz

Introduction: Young women and men may experience pre-pregnancy fear of childbirth. Although there are many studies on the fear of childbirth in pregnant women, there is very little information on the fear of childbirth experienced in the pre-pregnancy period in young people. This study was conducted to determine the levels of fear of childbirth before pregnancy in young women and men considering having a child in the future.
Methods: The descriptive and comparative study was conducted with 600 (301 female, 299 male) volunteer students who aged 18 and over, single, considering having a child in the future and studied at the Faculty of Veterinary, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Letters of a state University between February 17 and March 30, 2020. Data collection; questionnaire form and the Childbirth Fear–Prior to Pregnancy Scale were used. Data were collected using face-to-face interview method.
Results: Of the young people 50.2% are women and 49.8% are men. 73.1% of women and 71.9% of men are between the ages of 21-24. The mean pre-pregnancy fear of childbirth scores of young people were 36.89±9.26 in women and 31.50±7.26 in men. In-group comparisons, no significant difference was found between fear of childbirth scores according to descriptive characteristics in young women and men (p>0.05). When fear of childbirth youngs were compared between the groups; according to the variables of age, faculty, class, family and income status, it was determined that women experienced more fear of childbirth than men (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Although the fear of childbirth before pregnancy is seen at an undeniable level in young women and men, it is experienced at a higher level in women than in men.
