Leptoglossus occidentalis (Heidemann) is an invasive species that causes damage to the seeds of coniferous tree species, and an effective control method has not yet been identified. The study aimed to develop an effective control method against L. occidentalis. The research focused on stone pine trees in the Bergama-Kozak Basin, where the most damage occurs. It was observed that the adults of this species prefer warm locations for overwintering. Therefore, solar energy-fed infrared based traps were desinned and tested at various locations in the basin. Four different points were selected for testing. The temperature changes in these traps were measured over a period of three years, and the trapped adults were identified. The effect of temperature differences between infrared and control traps on the collection of adults was examined using a t-test. Although no statistically significant difference was found, it was determined that after a three-year period, the number of adults in traps with infrared heaters was 32% higher than in the control traps. It was also noticed that there were significant fluctuations in the population from year to year. In 2019 and 2021, a large number of adults were caught in the traps, whereas in 2020, both the traps and the areas where the insects overwintered had very few adults.
