Marmara Region, which is an important transit point in international maritime transport, is home to many ports. It is very important for the ports in the region to use their resources effectively in the intense competition. The aim of this study is to measure the efficiency of container ports in the Marmara Region and to offer potential improvement suggestions for inactive ports. For this purpose, 15 container ports operating in the Marmara Region were evaluated. Considering the studies in the literature, four input and one output indicators were used in the measurement of efficiency with Data Envelopment Analysis. As a result of the efficiency measurement, five ports were found to be effective. Potential improvements in output and input indicators for the other ten inactive ports are presented. As the average source of inefficiency of ports, the maximum depth and waste in the use of the total port area are in the first place, followed by the waste in the use of equipment and berth length. From this point of view, it is recommended to focus on optimization studies related to the use of berths, fields and equipment in container ports in the Marmara Region, thus reducing the sources of inefficiency.
