Vücut Kitle İndeksi, Cinsiyet ve Esnekliğin Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Yaşam Kalitesi Üzerindeki Etkilerinin İncelenmesi

Öz

Bu araştırma, vücut kitle indeksi (VKİ), cinsiyet ve esnekliğin yaşam kalitesi üzerindeki etkilerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmaya 18-25 yaşlarında 53 erkek ve 46 kadın üniversite öğrencisi gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Veriler, WHOQOL-BREF-TR, otur-uzan esneklik testi ve VKİ hesaplaması ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin normal dağılımı Shapiro-Wilk testi ile kontrol edilmiştir. İstatistiksel analizler, yaşam kalitesinin cinsiyet, VKİ ve esneklik ile ilişkisini incelemek için t-test ve Pearson korelasyon analizi kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar, erkeklerde VKİ’nin sosyal ilişkilerle güçlü bir pozitif korelasyona sahip olduğunu, ancak kadınlarda VKİ ile yaşam kalitesi arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmadığını göstermektedir. Erkeklerde VKİ’nin sosyal ilişkiler üzerindeki etkisi, sağlık ve psikolojik iyilik haliyle bağlantılıyken, kadınlarda çevresel faktörlerin daha fazla etkili olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Esneklik ile yaşam kalitesi arasında ise her iki cinsiyette anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır. Bu bulgular, üniversite öğrencilerinin yaşam kalitesinde cinsiyete bağlı farklılıklar olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Erkeklerde sosyal ilişkilerin ve psikolojik iyilik halinin VKİ ile daha güçlü ilişkili olması, sağlık temelli programlarda fiziksel aktivite ve beslenme eğitimine yönelik bireyselleştirilmiş yaklaşımların gerekliliğini vurgulamaktadır. Kadınlarda ise çevresel faktörlerin daha belirgin olması, güvenli kampüs ortamları, sosyal destek mekanizmaları ve yaşam alanlarının düzenlenmesi gibi çevresel iyileştirmelerin önemini göstermektedir. Bu doğrultuda, sağlık ve iyilik halini artırmaya yönelik cinsiyet odaklı müdahalelerin, fiziksel aktivite programları, psikososyal destek hizmetleri ve çevresel düzenlemeleri içerecek şekilde planlanması önerilmektedir.

Bu araştırma, Amasya Üniversitesi Girişimsel Olmayan Araştırmalar Etik Kurulu’ndan etik onay alınarak yürütülmüştür (Karar No: 2024/74, Tarih: 19.07.2024). Çalışma sürecinde katılımcıların gizliliği ve mahremiyetine özen gösterilmiş, elde edilen veriler yalnızca bilimsel amaçlarla değerlendirilmiştir. Katılımcılar, bilgilendirilmiş onam formunu imzalayarak araştırmaya dahil edilmiştir; çalışmanın tüm aşamalarında Helsinki Bildirgesi ve “Yükseköğretim Kurumları Bilimsel Araştırma ve Yayın Etiği Yönergesi” çerçevesinde hareket edilmiştir.

The Impact of Body Mass Index, Gender, and Flexibility on the Quality of Life of University Students

Öz

This study aims to examine the effects of body mass index (BMI), gender, and flexibility on quality of life. A total of 53 male and 46 female university students aged 18-25 voluntarily participated in the study. Data were collected using the WHOQOL-BREF-TR, the sit-and-reach flexibility test, and BMI calculations. The normality of the data distribution was checked using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Statistical analyses were conducted using t-tests and Pearson correlation analysis to examine the relationships between quality of life, gender, BMI, and flexibility. The results indicated that BMI had a strong positive correlation with social relationships in males, whereas no significant relationship was found between BMI and quality of life in females. The effect of BMI on social relationships in males was associated with health and psychological well-being, while environmental factors were found to be more influential in females. No significant relationship was observed between flexibility and quality of life in either gender. These findings reveal gender-related differences in the quality of life among university students. The stronger association between social relationships, psychological well-being, and BMI in males highlights the necessity of individualized approaches in health-based programs, particularly in physical activity and nutrition education. In contrast, the more pronounced influence of environmental factors in females underscores the importance of environmental improvements, such as creating safe campus environments, establishing social support mechanisms, and enhancing living spaces. Accordingly, gender-focused interventions aimed at improving health and well-being should be designed to incorporate physical activity programs, psychosocial support services, and environmental modifications.
