TÜRKİYE’DE DEMOGRAFİK DEĞİŞİKLİKLERİN ENFLASYON ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ

Öz

Demografik değişiklikler, ekonomi üzerinde ciddi bir etkiye sahip olan önemli bir faktördür. Ancak ekonomi üzerinde beklenen önemli etkilerine rağmen birçok makroekonomik politika tartışmasında genellikle merkezde yer almamaktadır. Bu çalışma, 1980-2019 dönemi için Türkiye’deki demografik değişikliklerin enflasyon üzerindeki etkilerini ampirik bir bakış açısıyla analiz etmeyi ve bunların politika sonuçlarını tartışmayı amaçlamıştır. Bu amaçla, değişkenlerin durağanlık durumlarının tespit edilmesinde yapısal kırılmalı Zivot-Andrews birim kök testi kullanılmıştır. Değişkenler arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişkinin tespitinde Gregory-Hansen (1996) eşbütünleşme testi ve ardından bu ilişkinin şiddetinin ve yönünün belirlenebilmesi için FMOLS (Fully Modified OLS) uzun dönem katsayı tahmincisi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Eşbütünleşme testi sonuçlarına göre değişkenler arasında uzun dönemli ilişki bulunmuştur. Eşbütünleşme katsayı tahminleri incelendiğinde, 15-64 yaş aralığındaki nüfus düzeyinde %1’lik bir artışın enflasyon oranını yaklaşık %6,785 artıracağı ve 65 yaş üstü nüfus düzeyinde %1’lik bir artışın enflasyon oranını yaklaşık %0,811 azaltacağı görülmüştür. Son olarak, değişkenler arasındaki nedensellik ilişkisinin araştırılmasında Hacker ve Hatemi-J (2006) Bootstrap Toda-Yamoto nedensellik testi kullanılmıştır. 15-64 yaş arası nüfus ve 65 yaş üstü nüfus düzeylerinden enflasyona doğru bir nedensellik ilişkisi olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular nüfus düzeyinde meydana gelen değişimlerin enflasyon oranı üzerinde etkili olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.
