Known
as a poet, Orhan Veli, who is pioneer of literary movement called “Garip” drew
up ordinary people’s anxiety and wrote understandable, narrative poems. He
successfully demonstrated people’s daily life and their point of view. Besides
his poems, he wrote stories but they have remained untouched and there are not
any studies on these stories. That’s why this article was written to illustrate
how Orhan Veli existed in literature as a story teller. Simplicity in his poems
is easily seen in his stories. However, simplicity does not cause ordinariness,
conversely it provides honorific theme. His works are case stories, though his
portrait of people and these people’s attitudes toward events are worth
searching in terms of psychoanalytic. The stories in this article have been
tried to be examined structurally without subtitle. Social messages that he
refers to as a subtext must be evaluated in its social life. His talent about
observation provide him to tell the stories in a humoristic way. He is
different from Socialist Realists in terms of his genre.
