An Evaluation of Augmented Reality Applications in Tourist Guiding at The Şuhut Atatürk House Museum

Öz

Augmented reality technology, with its rapid development in recent years, enables users to experience the physical world integrated with digital elements. While this technology has opened new horizons in many fields, such as education, entertainment, medicine, and retail, it has also provided a foundation for innovative practices in museology. The study aims to understand the evaluations of tour guides who visited the Şuhut Atatürk House Museum regarding the use of current augmented reality applications. Semi-structured inter- views were conducted with nine tour guides using a phenomenological sampling method. The collected data were analysed through descriptive thematic analysis using MAXQDA software. The findings reveal that the use of augmented reality in museology enhances the visitor experience and plays a significant role in preserving cultural heritage, passing it on to future generations, strengthening cultural and historical bonds, and overco- ming language barriers. This technology meaningfully transforms museology by merging the boundaries of the physical and digital worlds.

Öz

Artırılmış gerçeklik (AG) teknolojisi, son yıllarda yaşadığı hızlı gelişimle, kullanıcıların fiziksel dünyayı dijital unsurlarla bütünleşik bir şekilde deneyimlemesine olanak tanımaktadır. Bu teknoloji, eğitimden eğlenceye, tıptan perakendeye kadar pek çok alanda yeni ufuklar açarken, müzecilikte de çığır açıcı uygulamalara zemin hazırlamaktadır. Bu araştırma Şuhut Atatürk Evi Müzesi’nde görev yapan turist rehberlerinin artırılmış gerçeklik uygulamalarına yönelik algılarını derinlemesine incelemektir. Bu araştırma için fenomenoloji örneklem yöntemi kullanılarak müzeyi ziyaret eden dokuz turist rehberi ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen nitel veriler MAXQDA yazılımından yararlanılarak çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda, turist rehberlerinin artırılmış gerçeklik (AG) teknolojisini müzecilik alanında kullanması, müzecilikte yalnızca ziyaretçi deneyimini zenginleştirmekle kalmamakta, aynı zamanda kültürel mirasın korunması ve gelecek nesillere aktarılması, kültürel ve tarihi bağın güçlenmesi, dil bariyerinin aşılması gibi konularında da önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Bu teknoloji hem fiziksel hem de dijital dünyanın sınırlarını birleştirerek müzeciliği anlamlı bir şekilde dönüştürmektedir.
