Teenagers' reading habits are greatly impacted by the changing global environment, as multiple entertainment mediums and technologies compete for their attention. Even if these modern distractions are appealing, reading books has been demonstrated to have several positive short- and long-term effects. Nevertheless, when young people are exposed to more instantly satisfying types of entertainment, it might be difficult to encourage reading in them. Young Adult Literature (YAL) has a lot of potential to help with this problem, though. YAL has the ability to successfully pique young readers' interest with its gripping stories, likable characters, and topics that speak to their problems and experiences. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to give a brief synopsis of YAL's past and present.
