Öz

Alt ve üst çenelerin sagital yöndeki ilişkileri, özellikle de sentrik ilişki, yüzyılı aşkın bir süredir araştırmacıların üzerinde durduğu önemli bir konudur. Oklüzyon ve/veya temporomandibular eklem konusundaki tartışmalar; sentrik ilişkinin tanımı, kaydedilmesi ve kaydında kullanılan apareyler etrafında yoğunlaşmıştır. Sentrik ilişki (SI) teriminin tanımlaması, yüzyıl içinde “en geri, en arka ve en üst kondil pozisyonu” ndan, “ön-üst kondil pozisyonu” şeklinde değişmiştir. SI, diş kontaklarından bağımsız olarak kondillerin fossa içerisindeki pozisyonuyken, sentrik oklüzyon ise maksiller dişlerin mandibular dişlere göre interoklüzal dişsel pozisyonunu ifade etmektedir. Bu derlemenin amacı, sentrik ilişki terimi ile ilgili değişik görüşleri tartışmaktır
