Forensic dentistry is an important branch of forensic sciences. Radiology and radiological records are utilized in numerous subjects like identification determination, fact finding, determination of age and gender not in the field of forensic medicine, but also in the field of forensic dentistry. As radiological records light the way for either determination of current status or comparison of the past and current status, they constitute one of the most important assesment criteria of both forensic medicine and forensic dentistry. As dental radiograms utilized for the assesment of current status or for comparison of past and current or as evidence in court, it is important to obtain them in good radiographical quality circumstances and store them in appropriate condition. While previously intraoral and extraoral radiograms were used in the field of forensic dentistry, in recent years computerized tomography (CT) also comes into use. Radiology in forensic dentistry is not only used in the field of determination of identification, but also in determination of age- gender and in the field of disaster victim identification, and not only interests with dead people, but also with living individuals. The aim of this review is to give information about the role of radiology in forensic dentistry which is an incipient branch of forensic sciences in Turkey.
