SUMMARY
The thread used in carpet, kilim (rug) and other plain is woven prodilcts is dyed either with organic or cırtifida/
substances. One person who comes to our cıttemion in terms of dying such mCltters is Sabit Bey, from
the Çakaloğulları family of Bor, Turkey. TowClrds the end of the 19th century Sabit Bey was one of the most
weJl-known experts who would dye his weaving thread and fabrics with ncıturcıl c%~~rso In addition to using
natural and artitic/al c%rs separately in his works, Sabit Bey would a/so mix different types of colors in his
products. He ereated a cata/og in which he displayed one sample of eClch mClteriCl/ whose c%r he invented
through experimentation. In his experiments various damestic and foreign plants and a/iZilrin colors were
app/ied on his cotton cınd wool materia/s, maybe even tens cınd thousands of times. In this catalog the formu/
a of eveıy color he creClted is indicated immediCltely next to the sampJe of the material. The catalog
exhibits the following colors cınd their various combinCltions cıpplied on his samp/es: indigo blue, fiClvine,
LOsy red, nCl>y blue, heva (sky?) bJue, dClrl< grey, s/ate grey, brown, dark wine color/burgundy etc..
