SUMMARY

Two types of violence are met- one physical and the other psychological- in Led{ and King Lear, the former by Edward Bond and the /atter by William Shakespeare. S/nce one type ofvjolence brings about another, these two cannot be separated from each other. Edward Bond's main concern is both violence and the peop/e who have to Iive and bear such an atmosphere. /n Lear, Bond espeeially deals with a society ruled by a king who first ofall wanf5 to stop his enemles enter his kingdom for which he spent much of his life. But this attempt will result in both vlolence and aggressive actions. Ukewise, it is not so difficult to see the obvious refleetlons of physica/ and natural vio/ence in Shakespeare's King Lear. The world in Bond's play, we mayadd, is far from being somethlng full ofpessimistic e/emenf5. A/though the society seems to accept uslng violence, we stili meet those havinggood and non-vio/ent opin/ons in Bond's play as observed in Lear himself.
