ORHAN PAMUK’UN “BENİM ADIM KIRMIZI” ADLI ROMANINDA KIRMIZI

In this study, semantic meaning of the colour, red in Orhan Pamuk’s novel, My Name is Red was investigated. As a method, content analysis was used and based on the interpretation processes such as modifying, sign and referencing were adopted. The colour, red is mostly used in the chapter My Name is Red in the novel. All features of the colour were displayed in the aforementioned chapter in detail. Which words were modified and which meanings were referenced by this colour within the text of the novel were determined. It is possible to find all semantic and structural features of the red in the novel, My Name is Red. The red colour which is the most frequently used colour in the text is referenced to blood, love, fire and violence like poetic texts. Giving much place the colour, red in the novel maybe connected to the main topic of the novel, muralists’ lives and their paintings. The red, the colour of blood, love, fire and also the violence, with all these connotations integrates with the novel text. Like in a poetic text, the red is the colour of sunset in the novel. With a simple narration, it describes the novel characters’ cloths. The red with the causative form of the verb annoy means anger. Death and after-death is expressed with the red. The red generally describes fabrics, cloths, household goods and places. Also, how the red and its tones were formed by the muralists was dealt in detail in the novel. The red tones of the ornaments on the saddlesover the horses drawn by the blind muralists were mentioned in the novel. Though the blind muralists forget most of thing, they never forget the colour, red

Bu çalışmada Pamuk’un Benim Adım Kırmızı adlı romanında kırmızı rengin anlamsal değeri irdelenmiştir. Kırmızı renk en fazla romanın Benim Adım Kırmızı adlı bölümünde geçer. Kırmızı rengin bütün özellikleri söz konusu bölüm içinde ayrıntılı olarak gözler önüne serilmektedir. Roman metni içinde bu rengin hangi sözcükleri nitelediği ve hangi anlamlara gönderme yaptığı saptanmıştır. Kırmızının tüm anlamsal ve biçimsel özelliklerini Benim Adım Kırmızı adlı romanda bulmak olasıdır. Metnin örgüsü içinde en fazla geçen renk olan kırmızı şiirsel metinlerde olduğu gibi kana, aşka, ateşe ve şiddete gönderme yapar. Romanda renk anlatımlarının bu kadar çok geçmesi temel konunun nakkaşların hayatlarını ve yaptıkları resimleri ele almasına bağlanabilir. Kanın, aşkın, ateşin ve böylece özellikle şiddetin de rengi olan kırmızı, bu çağrıştırdığı anlamlarla roman metninde de bütünleşmektedir. Şiir metninde olduğu gibi romanda da kırmızı/kızıl gün batımının rengidir. Düz anlamıyla her şeyden çok romanda yer alan şahısların giysilerini niteler. Kırmızı, kızdırmak fiilinin ettirgen biçimi ile öfke anlatmaktadır. Ölüm ve ölüm ötesi kırmızı renk ile ifade edilmektedir. Kırmızı genellikle kumaşları, giysileri, ev eşyalarını ve mekânları niteler. Romanda yine kırmızı rengin ve tonlarının nakkaşlar tarafından nasıl oluşturulduğu uzun uzun anlatılır. Kör nakkaşların çizdiği atlar, üzerlerindeki eyerlerin süslemelerinde kullanılan kırmızı tonlardan söz edilir. Kör nakkaşlar pek çok şeyi unutsalar da kırmızı rengi asla unutmazlar.
