Humans want to know different cultures in the developing and changing world apart from their own cultures and livings. When we analyze the Turkish Literature in the term of the heyday of East, eximious works of Arabic and Persian literature have been translated into Turkish. These translation studies have contributed to develop Turkish Literature. In the period that started with Tanzimat and developed in the direction of west, novel and theater entered the literature through translation and many works were brought to Turkish literature through translation from western literature. As a result of translation activities, many works have been tried to be introduced to Turkish culture and literature. One of them is a novel named "Robinson", written by Daniel Defoe, translated by Ambroise Rendu into French, and translated by Semseddin Sami into Turkish from the French version. Transferring one language and culture to another language and culture may include a number of problems. A usage in a language may not be available in another. Some expressions on the source language may not yet have been conceptualized on the target language. The source language and the target language may not match in terms of word structure, lexicology, and syntax features. For this reason, translators may encounter some problems in translation activities.
In the framework of these thoughts, Robinson’s novel, Daniel Defoe, which was translated by Semseddin Sami from French Ambroise Rendu, has been examined by us, and, in this study some translation problems have been specified, and some suggestions have been proposed in order to overcome these problems in the context of the qualities that the Turkish language has.
