New Social Movements and Globalisation

In this article, new social movements emerging in the context of globalisation are analysed. Therefore, social movements are one of the most influential social phenomena of the postmodern era; and they cause structural and radical changes in society. New social movements emerge as a result of the development of modernism and the questioning of the quality and conditions of everyday life of postmodern people. Modern social movements have positive and negative capacities considering the time and space indicators, which are important features of globalisation. In the political dimension of globalisation, the control of national governments over their people has weakened. In addition, under the shadow of the development of information and communication technologies, national borders have weakened in terms of access to information. In the past, social movements were predominantly class-based and operated within the nation-state and the sovereign structure. Today, social movements are more global and people-centred. Increasing global mobility in all dimensions has enabled a protest to resonate and gain support in different parts of the world. Therefore, it can be said that social movements can become more globalised more quickly. This shows that there is a close relationship between globalisation and new social movements. In other words, new social movements are not specific to a single society or country; on the contrary, they concern all nations. The characteristics of these movements are cross-border pragmatism, high speed in gatherings, non-economic thinking and care to protect the world heritage.

Yeni Sosyal Hareketler ve Küreselleşme

Öz

Bu makalede, küreselleşme bağlamında ortaya çıkan yeni toplumsal hareketler incelenmiştir. Bu nedenle toplumsal hareketler, postmodern dönemin en etkili toplumsal fenomenlerinden biridir; ve toplumda yapısal ve köklü değişikliklere neden olmaktadır. Yeni toplumsal hareketler, modernizmin gelişiminin ve postmodern insanın günlük yaşam kalitesinin-koşullarının sorgulaması sonucu ortaya çıkmaktadır. Modern toplumsal hareketler, küreselleşmenin önemli özelliklerinden olan zaman ve mekan göstergeleri dikkate alındığında olumlu ve olumsuz kapasitelere sahiptir. Küreselleşmenin siyasi boyutunda, ulusal hükümetlerin halkları üzerindeki kontrolleri zayıflamıştır. Ayrıca bilgi ve iletişim teknolojilerinin gelişiminin gölgesinde bilgiye ulaşma açısından ulusal sınırlar zayıflamıştır. Toplumsal hareketler, geçmişte ağırlıklı olarak sınıfsal bir yapıya sahipken ulus devlet ve egemen yapı içinde işlemekteydi. Günümüzde ise toplumsal hareketler daha global ve halk eksenli gerçekleşmektedir. Tüm boyutlarda artan küresel dolaşıklık bir protestonun dünyanın farklı yerlerinde yankı bulmasına ve destek almasına olanak tanımıştır. Bundan kaynaklı olarak toplumsal hareketlerin daha hızlı küresel bir hal alabildiği söylenebilir. Bu da küreselleşme ve yeni toplumsal hareketler arasındaki sıkı ilişkinin olduğunu göstermektedir. Başka bir ifadeyle yeni toplumsal hareketler, tek bir topluma ve ülkeye özgü değil; aksine, tüm ulusları ilgilendirmektedir. Bu hareketlerin özellikleri, sınır ötesi pragmatizm, toplanmalarda yüksek hız, ekonomik olmayan düşünce ve dünya mirasını korumaya özen göstermedir.
