1926 First Baku Turkological Congress and Related Documents

Abstract

The First Baku Turkological Congress of 1926, which went down in history as an exceptional event in the history of Turkic-speaking peoples, continues to be the subject and object of research despite the passage of years. As a result of both scientific research and political analyses, the complex historical conditions of the period when the congress was held draw attention. The processes and political relations in the years after the end of the congress are one of the main factors in the direction of the study of national issues in the Soviet Empire. Leading Turkological scientists and thinkers of the world and the Soviet Union participated in the First Baku Turkological Congress, where many important issues related to ethnography and culture, history, literature, language and alphabet of Turkic peoples were discussed. Between 26 February - 6 March 1926, this congress, which was held in Baku at the Palace of Imailiyya, was attended by representatives of the Turkic peoples living in the Soviet Union, as well as foreign guests. A delegation of 131 people including historians, writers, poets, scientists, linguists and other important thinkers attended the congress. One of the main issues discussed at the congress was the scientific-methodological principles of the transition to the Latin alphabet. Although the fate of the participants of the congress was tragic, it should be noted that the congress has a historical significance as an important step towards the cultural integration of the Turkish people.

1926 Birinci Bakü Türkoloji Kongresi ile İlgili Belgelerin Araştırılması

Öz

Türk dili konuşan halkların tarihinde müstesna bir olay olarak tarihe geçen 1926 Birinci Bakü Türkoloji Kongresi, üzerinden yıllar geçmesine rağmen araştırma konusu ve nesnesi olmaya devam etmektedir. Hem bilimsel araştırmalar hem de siyasi analizler sonucunda kongrenin düzenlendiği dönemin karmaşık tarihsel koşulları dikkat çekmektedir. Kongrenin sona ermesinden sonraki yıllarda yaşanan süreçler ve siyasi ilişkiler, Sovyet İmparatorluğu'nda ulusal konuların incelenmesi yönünde temel faktörlerden biridir. Dünyanın ve Sovyetler Birliği'nin önde gelen Türkoloji sahası bilim adamları ve düşünürleri, Türk halklarının etnografyası ve kültürü, tarihi, edebiyatı, dili ve alfabesi ile ilgili birçok önemli konunun tartışıldığı Birinci Bakü Türkoloji Kongresi'ne katılmışlardır. 26 Şubat - 6 Mart 1926 tarihleri arasında Bakü'de İmailiyye Sarayı'nda düzenlenen bu kongreye Sovyetler Birliği'nde yaşayan Türk halklarının temsilcilerinin yanı sıra yabancı konuklar da katıldı. Kongreye tarihçiler, yazarlar, şairler, bilim adamları, dilbilimciler ve diğer önemli düşünürlerden oluşan 131 kişilik bir heyet katıldı. Kongrede tartışılan temel konulardan biri de Latin alfabesine geçişin bilimsel-yöntemsel ilkelerinin tartışılmasıydı. Kongre katılımcılarının bundan sonraki akıbeti trajik olsa da, kongrenin Türk halkının kültürel entegrasyonu yönünde atılan önemli bir adım olarak tarihi bir öneme sahip olduğunu belirtmek gerekir.
