Sufism, over many centuries, became widespread throughout numerous regions of the Muslim East and represents a profound and multilayered religious-philosophical doctrine. One of the principal sources documenting the development and influence of Sufism in Azerbaijan is the corpus of epigraphic monuments of the corresponding period. The khanqahs, owing to their strategic location along caravan routes, emerged as important centers of the socio-political and cultural life of medieval Azerbaijan. The Pir Husayn Shirvani Khanqah, which functioned during the 11th–13th centuries, served as an institutional embodiment of Sufi thought of that period. Under the guidance of the 11th-century philosopher and Sufi Pir Husayn Shirvani, the Qalandariyya order formed a powerful intellectual and spiritual sphere in Azerbaijan. The present study analyzes the role of this khanqah within the socio-political structure of medieval Azerbaijan, revealing the defining significance of Sufi institutions in the religious, cultural, and ideological transformations of society.
