The Role of Azerbaijan in Poland's South Caucasus Policy

Öz

This article explores Azerbaijan's role in Poland's South Caucasus policy by examining the political, economic, and energy-related dimensions of bilateral cooperation. Although the two countries are geographically distant, their relations rest on historical foundations and have developed into a stable partnership over time, supported by continuous diplomatic interaction, expanding shared interests, and converging strategic priorities. Adopting a qualitative, document-based research design, the study draws on official statistical data, policy documents, and academic literature to analyze the multidimensional character of bilateral relations. The study evaluates Poland's approach to the South Caucasus within the context of broader European regional policies and emphasizes Azerbaijan's increasing significance in promoting energy security, regional connectivity, and economic cooperation. Special attention is given to energy relations, particularly large-scale initiatives such as the Southern Gas Corridor, which have enhanced the diversification of energy supplies available to European markets. The article also assesses trade and investment relations, indicating that while political dialogue has reached an advanced level, substantial opportunities remain for further economic expansion. In addition, the research examines the geopolitical importance of transport corridors linking Europe and Asia, as well as the contribution of cultural, educational, and humanitarian cooperation to long-term bilateral relations. The findings demonstrate that Azerbaijan occupies a strategically important place in Poland's regional policy and remains a key partner for future cooperation across multiple sectors.
