Mersin Redif Battalıon ın Repressıng Yemen Uprısıng of 1903

Öz

During the Ottoman rule, Yemen had always been a region with problems. In this context, the years between 1870 and 1918 was especially important and different than other periods because it was the period when tragic events causing the death of millions of people and thus making deep impact on national memory and resulting in songs, elegiacs, epic stories took place. During those years, many uprisings in 1891, 1898, 1903, 1905 and 1911 took place in Yemen. To suppress these uprisings/revolts, many additional redif and nizamiye battalions were sent there. Since it was on the shore, to send those military troops to Yemen, the first place that authorities thought using as the initial transfer point was Mersin.This study examines Mersin Redif Battalion that was sent to Yemen to suppress the 1903 Uprising.

1903 Yemen İsyanının Bastırılmasında Mersin Redif Taburu

Öz

Osmanlı hakimiyeti döneminde Yemen her zaman problemli bir bölge olmuştur. Ancak 1870-1918 yılları arasındaki dönem öncekilerden daha farklıdır. Çünkü milletimizin hafızasında derin izler bırakan, ağıtlara, türkülere, destanlara konu olan olaylar bu dönemde yaşanmıştır. Çok sayıda can kaybının olması bunun temel sebebini teşkil etmiştir. Söz konusu dönemde 1891, 1898, 1903, 1905 ve 1911 olmak üzere büyük isyanlar görülür. Bu isyanları bastırmak amacıyla bölgeye çok sayıda ilave nizamiye ve redif taburlar gönderilmiştir. Sahil olması dolayısıyla Yemen'e tabur sevki söz konusu olduğunda ilk akla gelen yerlerden biri de Mersin olmuştur. Çalışmamızda 1903 yılındaki isyan münasebetiyle Yemen'e sevk edilen taburlardan biri olan Mersin Redif Taburunun faaliyetleri üzerinde durulmuştur.
