Issues of Turkish Language Studies and Teaching in Japan

Abstract

Historical relations between Turkey and Japan belongs to the Altai language family of Turks and Japanese peoples by ethnicity and Mahmut Kashgary's famous world map in 11th century, which shows Japan for the first time in the world. A special page in the history of TurkishJapanese relations was famous tour of the frigate "Ertugrul" to the shores of Japan. On the other hand, the Turkish refugees from the Russian revolutions in the early 20th century brought to the Japanese islands values and traditions of Turkic civilization. After the Second World war in Japan developed Turcology and especially advanced researches on Turkey Turkish. In leading the Japanese universities (the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Osaka University, Tsukuba University ...) opened Turkish Studies Departments. As of now (2011), in Japan being taught and researched Turkish more than a dozen universities and research centers. In this article studied the history of the study of Turkic / Turkish languages in Japan and the current state of the Japanese Turkology in general. Particular attention was paid to the methods of teaching the Turkish language to the Japanese students.
