Tarih araştırmalarının hemen her alanında olduğu üzere, tasavvufi düşünce tarihi alanında da belirli moda konular, araştırmalara hâkim olmuştur. Bazen siyasal, bazen ideolojik, hatta turistik veya ticari sebeplerle öne çıkan bu moda konular, Anadolu Selçukluları dönemi için Mevlâna Celâleddin-i Rûmi, Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli ve Ahi Evren (bu arada Ahilik), Beylikler dönemi için de Yunus Emre etrafında odaklanmıştır. Bu yazı ile Ebülfez Elçibey, edebiyat, tarih, felsefe, hukuk vb. bilimlerin tarihini inceleyen âlimlerimizin bakışını sufiliğin modern bilimsel düzeyde incelenmesine yöneltmek istemektedir.
