Importance Of The Historical Experience In The Teaching Of Democracy And Human Rights (On The Example Of Azerbaijan)

Abstract

When the Soviet Union was destroyed and Azerbaijan have got independence again the changes in political and economical spheres covered education also. So political environment showed the necessity of teaching the themes- democracy and human rights, that hadn’t taken place in Azerbaijan education system before. Now such subjects as “Democracy and Human rights” and “The theory of Democracy” are taught in most universities of Azerbaijan. We should notice that as USA and Europe democracy are the models in teaching democracy and human rights, bases of them like classical Greece democracy, the establishment of parliament management system in Europe, rights to elect and to be elected and others take place widely in education. It is a pity that teaching democracy in that way makes students think that democracy has only been in Europe and USA since ancient times and feel themselves very little as a nation. Today standartalising covers most spheres of our lives, however we can notice religious, ethnic, cultural differences among nations. These differences make impossible to draw a valuable frame for an ideal democratic society. That is why the main aim in teaching democracy and human rights is to find an ideal frame of democracy for this society. So side by side with Europe and USA democracy models we have to base on our history. There are enough examples in Azerbaijan history. We would like to indicate three of them. So basing on historical experiences side by side Europe and USA examples could be a good experience in finding out the solution of many unsolved problems.
