Assessment of Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Regarding SMA Carrier Screening and Newborn Screening Programs Among Physicians in Tertiary Healthcare Institutions

Öz

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of physicians in tertiary healthcare institutions regarding SMA carrier and newborn screening programs.
Materials and Methods: This study is cross-sectional and descriptive in nature. After obtaining ethical approval, it was conducted between 17.07.2024 and 16.08.2024 with the participation of 80% of physicians working in the internal medicine departments of XXXXXX.
Results: In this study, the average age of physicians was 27.92 ±3.63 years, with 61.2% being female. Physicians with chronic diseases have significant knowledge about NSP and have significant scores of 50 and above on the SMA knowledge scale. Married physicians, physicians who have children, and physicians who have information about SMA are significantly more likely to source information about NSP from physicians and healthcare professionals. Participants whose source of information about SMA is a physician and physicians who have information about NSP know the majority of NSP tests at a significant rate. It was determined that the knowledge level of physicians, especially those with chronic diseases, was high about NSP and SMA, which can be diagnosed early.
Conclusion: We believe that it would be beneficial to focus on NSP training in medical school education, to organize courses on this subject for general practitioners, and to increase the quality of NSP training for internal medicine physicians in order to reach a sufficient level of NSP and SMA carrier screening in the society.

Üçüncü Basamak Sağlık Kurumlarında Görevli Hekimlerde SMA Taşıyıcılık ve Yenidoğan Tarama Programlarına Yönelik Bilgi, Tutum ve Uygulamaların Değerlendirilmesi

Öz

Amaç:
Bu çalışma, üçüncü basamak sağlık kurumlarında görev yapan hekimlerin SMA taşıyıcılık ve yenidoğan tarama programlarına yönelik bilgi, tutum ve davranışlarını değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır.

Gereç ve Yöntem:
Bu çalışma kesitsel ve tanımlayıcı niteliktedir. Etik onay alındıktan sonra, 17.07.2024 - 16.08.2024 tarihleri arasında, XXXX'deki dahili tıp birimlerinde çalışan hekimlerin %80’inin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir.

Bulgular:
Çalışmada hekimlerin ortalama yaşı 27,92 ±3,63 yıl olup, %61,2’si kadındır. Kronik hastalığı olan hekimlerin YTP hakkında anlamlı düzeyde bilgiye sahip oldukları ve SMA bilgi ölçeğinde 50 ve üzeri anlamlı puanlara sahip oldukları görülmüştür. Evli olan, çocuk sahibi olan ve SMA hakkında bilgi sahibi olan hekimler, YTP hakkında bilgi kaynaklarını anlamlı olarak daha çok hekimlerden ve sağlık çalışanlarından edinmektedir. SMA hakkındaki bilgi kaynağı bir hekim olan katılımcılar ile YTP hakkında bilgi sahibi olan hekimler, YTP kapsamındaki testlerin çoğunu anlamlı düzeyde bilmektedir. Özellikle kronik hastalığı olan hekimlerin, erken tanı konulabilen YTP ve SMA hakkında yüksek düzeyde bilgiye sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir.

Sonuç:
Toplumda yeterli düzeyde YTP ve SMA taşıyıcılık taramasına ulaşabilmek için, tıp fakültesi eğitiminde YTP konusuna daha fazla yer verilmesinin, pratisyen hekimlere yönelik bu konuda kurslar düzenlenmesinin ve dahili tıp hekimlerinin YTP eğitim kalitesinin artırılmasının faydalı olacağı kanaatindeyiz.
