SANTORİNİ VOLKANI VE MİNOAN PÜSKÜRMESİNİN TÜRKİYE’DEKİ İZLEri

Öz

Tefra tabakaları volkanik püskürmelerin yaşı, volkan külünün yayılış alanı ve insan ile doğal çevre üzerindeki etkilerinin saptanması bakımından büyük bir öneme sahiptir. Bu tip tefra tabakalarına güzel bir örnek olarak, Doğu Akdeniz tabaınıdan alınan derin deniz sondajlarında çok ratlanan, İÖ 17. yüzyılda çok güçlü bir püskürme oluşturan Ege adalarından biri olan Santorini verilebilir. Volkanik kül tabakalarına Ege adalarındaki karasal tortullarda ve batı Anadolu’daki göllerin tortullarında da rastlanmıştır. Göl tortullarındaki volkanik külün jeokimyasal analizi ve radyokarbon yaşlandırmaları bunun Santorini’nin Minoan püskürmesine ait olduğunu göstermektedir. Batı Anadolu göllerinde bulunan tefra tabakası içeren sediment tabakaları aynı bölgede ki diğer göllerde de bu tabakaların bulunabileceğini işaret etmektedir

Santorini Volcano and Tephra Layers of Minoan Eruption in Turkey

Öz

Tephra layers provide an opportunity to determine the age of an eruption, the extent of ash dispersal, and its impact on natural and human ecosystems. One such tephra from the seventeenth-century BC eruption of Thera on the Aegean island of Santorini is well known in deep-sea sediment cores from the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It has also been discovered in terrestrial sediments on the Aegean islands. There is also layer of volcanic ash in the sediments of lakes in the western Anatolia. Geochemical analysis of the volcanic ash from lake sediments together with radiocarbon datings that the provenance of this tephra is the Minoan eruption of Santorini. The presence of tehpra mixed sediment layers in the Western Anatolia lakes indicates that tephra deposits may also be found in the other proper places of the same region
